DTV application changes

From 31 August 2026, new Destination Thailand Visa applications are tighter on where you can file and which background document you must include.

In practice

  • Visitor applications from a third country are usually refused, including from a nearby embassy while you live in Thailand.
  • The DTV is still issued outside Thailand. You generally have to travel to the country where you can apply.
  • Start the police clearance now. Many countries take weeks, and some posts want it recent and legalized.
  • Confirm the apply-from country before you book flights or pay embassy fees. Those fees are not refunded if the application is refused.
