VFS Australia Thailand - Biometrics and Visa Application Centre

VFS Global operates Australia Visa Application Centre in Bangkok on behalf of the Department of Home Affairs. If you apply for an Australian visa from Thailand, you will almost certainly attend VFS for biometric collection after lodging on ImmiAccount.

VFS does not decide visas. Home Affairs assesses every application. VFS accepts appointments, collects biometrics, and forwards data to the department. The Australian Embassy in Thailand does not replace VFS for biometrics.

Most visa subclasses lodged from Thailand require biometrics at VFS Bangkok. You generally cannot book until ImmiAccount generates the requirement after online lodgement.

  • You have lodged an Australian visa application on ImmiAccount from Thailand
  • ImmiAccount has generated a Biometrics Identification Letter or equivalent notification
  • You have booked an appointment on the VFS portal for Australia in Thailand
  • You bring the passport used in the ImmiAccount application
  • Minors under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • The Australian Embassy in Thailand does not replace VFS for biometrics

Important: Order matters. You generally cannot book biometrics until ImmiAccount generates the requirement after online lodgement. Lodge on ImmiAccount first, then book VFS.

Additional guidance

1

What VFS does and does not do

VFS collects fingerprints and photographs, accepts supporting documents when instructed, and provides application centre services. Home Affairs assesses eligibility and grants or refuses visas. VFS paid extras do not influence visa decisions.

2

Location and appointments

VFS operates an Australian visa application centre in Bangkok. Confirm current street address, opening hours, and parking on the official VFS booking website. Walk-ins are typically not accepted without a booked appointment.

3

Does VFS keep your passport?

Usually no for standard biometrics-only appointments. VFS collects biometrics and you retain your passport unless specifically instructed otherwise. If Home Affairs requests passport submission later, instructions arrive through ImmiAccount.

4

After your VFS appointment

Monitor ImmiAccount for health exam requests, further information requests, or grant notification. Complete medical examinations through panel physicians and obtain police certificates when requested. Respond to RFI deadlines promptly.

Common VFS mistakes from Thailand

These errors show up repeatedly in our Bangkok consultations for VFS appointments.

  • Booking biometrics before ImmiAccount generates the biometrics letter
  • Bringing a different passport from the one on the application
  • Missing appointment without cancelling. This may delay the case
  • Assuming VFS staff can advise on visa eligibility. They cannot
  • Going to the Australian Embassy instead of VFS for biometrics
